Interview with Murray

So Andy Murray shows up in my office for his interview. I got things off to a good start by making him wait 20 minutes just so he wouldn't be so confident. I started asking him his coaching philosophy and how he would achieve his objectives. He went on and on, talking about accountability and other crap. I could tell right off that he would be tough one to manage, so I moved to another topic.

I asked him if he liked golf and he said yes. I asked if when he was growing up did he ever caddie and he said yes. I said great because Mr. McConnell likes to have caddies who are competent. He said that’s nice and was about to say something when I asked if he thought he could carry two bags at one time. He asked me what the hell was I getting to and I explained that sometimes when the McConnell father and son play golf together they like to save money and use one caddie. He asked again what that had to do with coaching the Blue Jackets and I explained carefully that as an employee of the McConnell’s, he would have to “do what it takes” and do what is asked. He laughed at me and said, yeah, right.

I then showed him pictures of the potato fields on PEI and asked how many he thought he could pick in a day. Andy started getting a little testy and just then I turned on the Stompin Tom Connors music. I told him we play Stompin Tom all day around the office. He got quiet then and the interview ended shortly afterward.

I got Murray where I want him. If he takes the job, I won’t hear a peep out of him. He’ll know who is President, General Manager, and Alternate Governor of the Columbus Blue Jackets. I am the Visionary around here.
